Why are there spots on my Goldfish Plant?

Are you seeing some spots on your Goldfish Plant? Spots can appear for a variety of reasons, so let’s dive into why this may be happening.

Overwatering

If your goldfish plant is getting watered too often, brown spots can appear. Be sure to let the soil volume dry out by 50% before watering to prevent root rot from happening.

Dry spots

Is the air in your home a bit dry? Some dry spots can appear if the plant is desiring a boost in humidity! Try adding a humidifier or pebble tray nearby or misting your plant often.

Pests

Spots on the leaves of your goldfish plant could be a sign that pests are lurking on the plant! Look closely for pests, such as scale, spider mites, and mealybugs! If you notice any plant pests, quarantine your plant and treat it immediately.

Leaf Spot

Spots could also be a sign that your plant has a leaf spot disease. If the spots are brown and ringed in yellow, we suggest treating the plant with neem oil and quarantining it from your other plants to be safe. Remove the spots with clean sharp scissors, wiping the blades with rubbing alcohol between each snip. Avoid putting water on the leaves until the leaf spot has cleared up and allow the soil volume to dry out 50% of the way between waterings.

Hard water spots

The spots could also be from hard water sitting on the leaves and leaving residue behind. Spray your plant’s leaves with a 1:10 vinegar-water solution. Use a soft cloth to wipe off the solution gently and tada, good as new!
