Description
Air plants, or Tillandsia, make up the largest subgroup found in the bromeliad family. These plants are epiphytic in nature, so they evolved to grow on other plants like trees. These plants will bloom once in a lifetime with a colorful bloom spike unique to each variety.
Air plants are native to a wide range of ecosystems in South America and the southern United States. Found living on other plants, tillandsia get their moisture and nutrients from the air using tiny hairs called trichomes. Every 1-2 weeks, fully soak your air plant in a bowl or sink. While tap water is acceptable, keep your air plant looking its best by using rain or spring water. These plants need indirect light to thrive and like to be kept in a humid environment.
